Brandish Renewal (PC-98) (1995)
Falcom
Play

Brandish Renewal is Nihon Falcom’s expanded re-issue of its 1991 dungeon-crawler, released for the NEC PC-9801/9821 on 10 March 1995 (three HD-installable floppy disks plus a separate J.D.K. soundtrack CD; later bundles swapped to CD-ROM-only). It preserves the real-time, mouse-driven overhead mazes but adds:
hard-drive installation and noticeably faster load times
a rewritten Falcom Sound Team J.D.K. score with several new tracks
256-colour portrait redraws and an all-floor auto-map
balance tweaks (quicker weapon draw, smarter enemy AI) noted in Falcom’s update sheet and later fan docs
Clearing the 40-floor labyrinth still unlocks a short Time-Attack scenario, and Renewal’s engine became the template for Brandish 2/3 Renewal later that same year.
